What to Expect in Addiction Treatment at TTC Care

For some, the idea of going to a rehabilitation program is a big unknown that brings up a lot of questions: What will it be like? Will I love it or hate it? Will it work for me?

TTC Care wants you to enjoy the process as much as possible, while meeting your essential needs as you detox, heal and begin your journey to long-term sobriety. Our residential treatment program offers a wide variety of holistic and clinical treatment activities that can be tailored to your needs to give you the best possible tools for your healing and recovery.

Here’s a look at our daily activities to give you a sense of what it’s like to live, heal, learn and connect at TTC Care.

Daily Schedules and Routines

We offer around 20 possible activities per day to choose from, which encompass traditional treatment methodologies as well as modern, holistic practices. Most sessions are in a group setting. Some activities, such as meditation, involve very little interaction, while others are geared to fully engage group members in healthy social interaction.

On weekdays, you are required to attend eight sessions per day. Your primary group session with a therapist is required. The other seven are your choice.

On weekends, only seven total sessions are required, and all of them are free choice. During the weekdays, you’ll find a greater selection of education and group support activities, and on the weekends you have a wider variety of recreational options such as kickball, guitar, trivia, art, board games, video games, writing and movies.

Here’s an overview of what a typical daily schedule looks like at TTC Care:

  • Morning meditation and morning prayer times – optional, yet recommended to start the day off with strong intentions
  • Primary group therapy meeting after breakfast
  • Group education and support sessions before and after lunch
  • Activities for healing through art, music, exercise, mindfulness and spiritual practices
  • In-house and off-site peer support group meetings
  • In the evening, enjoy a movie and some sober fun time
  • End the day with a meditation tea time service or quiet reading time

This schedule allows for about 7-8 hours of sleep per day, which enables physical healing at night and helps you feel rejuvenated in the morning and ready to engage in the day’s activities.

Each day begins with an intention statement around key principals that support recovery, such as gratitude, humility, brotherly love, forgiveness, perseverance and spirituality.

For those who require medication during treatment, you are given time to visit the nurse in the morning, afternoon and evening. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily in Katie’s Café.

The Role of Spirituality During Treatment

Spiritual activities are available in abundance for those who want them, yet completely optional to accommodate those who prefer a secular approach.

Christian-based religious practices and resources we provide, all optional, include:

  • Morning prayer time daily
  • 12-step program featuring a spiritual component
  • Faith-based education and support sessions led by a local pastor
  • In-house or off-site worship services on Sunday mornings
  • On-site church sessions focused around recovery
  • Prayer group sessions
  • Pastoral counselling and Christian therapists
  • Separate men’s and women’s peer group meetings
  • Recovery Bible study

Mindfulness and Alternatives to Religious Activities

The mindfulness experiences we provide are valuable either as a substitute for religious activities, or as a supplement to spiritual practices. They provide the benefits of a spiritual practice – such as peace, gratitude, grounding and reconnection – without being tied to any specific religious or spiritual beliefs.

The mindfulness practices we provide, all optional, include:

  • Morning meditation times daily
  • Education on indfulness practices
  • Tai chi
  • Yoga
  • Drum circle
  • Meditation tea time service nightly

Drug-Free Pain Management Options

For those whose addiction stems from a need to control chronic pain, a key question is: How will I manage my pain without drugs?

We recognize the validity of this concern and provide many alternative ways for you to manage your pain and stay sober at the same time, including:

  • Therapeutic massage
  • Chiropractic care
  • Laser therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Relaxation therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Yoga
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Meditation and mindfulness programs

Your Home Away from Home

Our mission centers around restoring hope for men and women who suffer from the disease of addiction, and our compassionate staff is dedicated to providing a loving and supportive environment where all patients are treated with understanding, dignity and respect. In short, we want you to feel at home with us. Our environment and programs are designed to help you feel at ease even as you take on the challenging process of overcoming addiction.

Our treatment center provides a warm and welcoming environment, with dorm rooms outfitted with home-style décor, a place where you can look forward to relaxing at the end of each day.

Our grounds feature a sand volleyball court, basketball hoop, large Ramada, and walking paths amidst lush grass and trees. We also have a Japanese Zen garden, which we call the Serenity Garden, where you can attend meditation and prayer sessions, or simply come to relax and enjoy some quiet time in a beautiful, natural setting.
